Question: How to do SEO for UK

Hi all,

I need an advice from you guys, how can I optimize one of my sites for UK?
The site provides services that are realistic and competitive as well. The site has being advertised in Google, Yahoo and on classified ads sites. I think that I need something much more reliable in a long term, because when I stop my ads the orders stop as well.

Besides tips, you can help me by telling me who can I hire to do this work. Someone that has experience with the UK market. I am paying for his services. One of the mistakes I make is that my site is not hosted in UK, but in USA. Can I leave it that way, because I am pretty happy with HostGator and do not want to move the site to another hosting provider in UK. Well, if it's necessary, I will do it. Would you suggest me some that works well for you?

The optimization your site for top positions in UK is kind of hard work. It is also kind of impossible to reach the top positions, even first page is not an easy task. While you were on the some good position thanks to the ads you were running, you have probably noticed that the first places are taken by eBay and Amazon with more than 1 results. You can see this with other popular products.

How to optimize New domain for the uk search engines?

Yesterday I got a webinar. The video, as well as me, does not tells you mush more than every SEO expert can tell you - fresh, unique and valuable content. Tags, formats and other stuff, that increase the CTR and conversion rate. Social signals and angaging visitors and potential clients. And the most important - backlinks from authority and related sites. The other is voodoo. :)

Wow, great topic. Will give some more advices here, because I am there and know what SEO best do to reach the desired top positions.

First. All you need to do is to optimize you site on a technical level, what does it mean? You need to clear the errors in the code, make it fast loading, no unnecessary javas, good structure, well selected content, user friendly design, no unwanted keywords and you are done.

Second. You need to think about the site popularity. You will have the chance to think of several main channels - social, related and authority sites, offline (good option as well) and paid ads (without them, you will wait till the others give some results). That's it.

About the related and authority site. Find them and do your best to get a link from there. No spamming or what so ever. Do it smart and try to communicate with the person behind the site, as and webmaster he will tr to give you options, because he need to crow its business too. So, he is in condition to have a conversation with you in order to get the best for his site, and, of course, you for yours. :)

Make your site for your visitors, not for SE. Of course, have them in mind, but the main focus is your visitors. Good luck. ;)

Thank you for your feedback! I know that this is so. Important to me for the next three months to get into the top 100 for certain keywords . My website provide real services in a very high competitive environment. I started this site a year ago, to allow my clients to see my terms and conditions and prices of services . At first I was not looking traffic from Google. I pay for advertising and still I do it . In the long term I want to find customers from Google, such as reduced costs for advertising. This can make SEO for me. Thanks for all the advice you gave me . One month will straighten mistakes on the site.
I'll follow the advice of Poltargaista:
I'll make a blog and write descriptions of all the services that I provide with pictures and video. I'll register my website in Google locale. Long tail keywords for each area of the London, which provide services, indexing more pages in Google and then quality link building.
I think nothing is impossible ! We have to think positive and look to the future ! If you do not try , you'll never move on !

Few months ago, I was watching an interesting webinar. In it, the person was explaining how he has been reducing the AdWords spends while was doing SEO. When he got a good position in the organic results, he pauses the keyword in his AdWords campaign till he pauses all of them. But this example was king of unbelievable. Doing this trick, you really need a good SEO. You can follow that strategy, if you want.

And do not forget - more than 70% of the traffic will come from keywords generated for the first time. Good luck and keep us informed. :)

How competitive is the niche from 1 to 10? :) Sorry, but need to know for what kind of market and players in it we are writing about. :)

Also, the main keyword how many searches does it have? Good luck with the SEO of the site. :)

Wow, the competition is really tough. Hope you are prepared for this market. :)

To tell you the true, the sites on the top positions are not so good as a look and optimization. You can see for yourself. One thing makes them staying there, the authority they have built with the years. Use this. Years ago, you could reach the top position with a site not more than 6 months history in the net, but now is kind of hard, so follow the advices and try to make a good linking to it.

Use more the social signals! This is also important and main key to be on the first page. The searches are not so many, but I believe that the keyword brings pretty targeted traffic. The local is really important to you here. ;)

Initially in an article without a link and then two more articles with a link to different pages of the main website. Do you think it is a good idea or not?
 
Wow, many thanks. the second colon is not what you need for the local search, but anyway, will do some work. :)

If you're asking about the blog platforms, I think that you should run a normal blog there without any link. And when you reach 5 or more posts / pages, you can put a link. It is not a good idea to do it right away. There are two reasons: the editors will think that your blog is created to be a satellite site, pointing to the main one and with 2-3 articles you are not really having a blog...just 2-3 pages on the web (getting links from established and good-looking blog is much better).

The advice is for WordPress, blog.co.uk, blog.com, livejournal.com. The others - haven't tried them.

You need a week to make a good blog. So, take your time and do your best. You don't want a scrappy link, right? :)
