Here are few fast tips on hot to do onpage and offpage SEO of an image:

On Page SEO tips:

• image file name = keywords;
• alt tag = keywords;
• you do not make the image a link to itself, just link to another web site (relevant);
• anchor = keywords;
• title = keywords.

Off page SEO tips:

• links form blog comment (a little bit more spammy);
• links from forum profiles ;
• links from satellite sites - you have two options here - direct link to your image or include the image into the post (content), the link points to the original resource;
• links from article directories / blogs
• social sharing

Another tip of naming image ‘NAME’ in the webpage, post, article:

If content of the page is about plastic water bottle. And you had placed a picture of bottle having name “DSC0000145.JPG”, when search engine crawl your page they will also make a note of image also bured color water grade bottlet image will most likely not attached with the description of the page. But, if you name it as “.jpg”, it will have double impact

• Image will be related to the content of the page
• Image most likely will show in Google image too, giving extra weightage to the main page

Note: So make sure to rename your images before posting with keywords of the theme of the page.
